Confocal Microscopy


This is a half day long workshop (usually 1pm-4:30pm with a 15 min break). It is lecture only, and contains both theoretical and practical information which will help you get the best possible images from your confocal microscope!

Topics covered include:

  • When to use a confocal microscope
  • The confocal principle
  • Design of laser scanning and fast scanning (for example, spinning disk) confocals
  • How to properly use illumination, scanning, and detection settings in software
  • Quantitative comparision of laser scanning and spinning disk confocal, with guidelines on when to use each
