Fluorescence Basics


This is a one day workshop (usually 10am-3:30pm with a break for lunch) that is both lecture and hands-on laboratory exercises. We cover both theoretical and practical information that will help you get the best possible fluorescence images!

Topics covered include:

  • Fluorescence and fluorophores
  • Filter sets & other methods of wavelength selection
  • Choosing the best fluorophore and filter set combination
  • Alignment of the fluorescence light path (including the arc lamp)
  • Resolution
  • Choosing the best objective lens for your experiment
  • Mounting your specimen for fluorescence microscopy
