Use of equipment in the NIC@HMS for research purposes is available to members of laboratories whose principle investigator's primary appointment is with one of the seven basic science departments on the HMS Quad, or with a Harvard Medical School Affiliated Hospital in the Longwood Medical Area. The basic science departments are:

• Cell Biology
• Systems Biology
• Biological Chemistry & Molecular Pharmacology
• Genetics
• Microbiology & Molecular Genetics
• Neurobiology
• Central Pathology, HMS

The NIC@HMS is a Cell Biology, Systems Biology, and BCMP core facility. Members of the Cell Biology, Systems Biology and BCMP Departments have full access priviledges to all microscopes. Access for the other basic science departments is limited to Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. For the HMS affiliated institutions, access is further limited to the C1 laser scanning confocal and the 80i upright microscope.
